15 & 28mm Sci Fi Terrain

Hi, folks. I've been messing around with some more terrain for our sci-fi gaming. I recently got a Zuzzy Wounded City Broken Blacktop mat and am using it as a base for the terrain. This mat is really nice, I think I'm going to have to get at least a 4x4 foot mat next. Anyway, here's the pics. 28mm first.

Here's where the 15mm starts. This is a build I made from the Hirst Arts Spaceship Wall mold and the Starship Deck Mold with a couple pieces from other molds. I designed this build to be either a 3 story building or 3 one story buildings or a 1 story and a 2 story building. I painted it with 3 shades of green for the walls. The roof is black with gunmetal. The interior is playable because the roooves are removable. The rooves feature hatches for access to adjacent floors and can accomodate a flying vehicle. I based the ground floor on a piece of vinyl floor tile.
Pic below shows the building divided into it's 3 separate parts.

Here's a shot of the ground floor with the roof removed. I'm also using some Ground Zero Games alien Mercs for scale. I'm using the GZG Alien Mercs as Orksis (Orks in Space).

Pic below shows the ground floor with the roof in place and a Star Wars Republic Gunship parked on the roof.

Next couple pics below show the second floor (1st floor for our cousins across the pond)

Last 2 pics below show the building with all 3 stories. One of my design features for this build was to have big flat areas on the rooves for landing flying vehicles or to put troops.

Next up is a few 15mm sci fi buildings I'm making from electrical boxes. I got the inspiration for these from a fellow TMPer. Thanks for looking,

15mm Orksis, Tanks, and Broken Blacktop mat

Hi, folks. I finally got around to painting my GZG Alien Mercs. I'm going to use them as Orks in Space for 15K (40K in 15mm) and other games. These are just beautiful minis that were a joy to paint. They deserved some nice vehicles and I decided to use some slightly converted WWII armor from Gaming Models 15mm Miniatures. These are very nice models at a great price, and I have gotten great service from Craig. Each of my orders have come quickly, and carefully packed in custom cut foam. With Craig's help I chose some early Russian and British tanks and did some minor conversions on some of the guns, with a basic paint job of red with yellow dags, a gunmetal drybrush and a black wash. Then I did some work on my new Wounded City Broken Blacktop mat from Zuzzy. I have another Zuzzy mat which I really like so when I saw the new Wounded City Broken Blacktop mat, I had to get one. I got the 2x2 foot one for some 15mm modern and near future gaming. It has some great detail and I was really pleased with it.
GZG Alien Mercs/Orksis

Pics below show the Gaming Models 15mm Russian T-35s I'm using for Orksis Heavy tanks. I replaced the main gun on both with a gun barrel from a Matchbox Battle Kings cannon. These tanks are huge for 15mm at 4 inches long and have 5 turrets.

Pic below shows the 3 tank types together for size comparison.

Pic below shows one of the Gaming Models British Churchill VII tanks I'm using for an Orksis medium tank. I replaced it's gun with a portion of an EM4 Space Ranger heavy weapon.

Another medium tank with a main gun made from part of the nib of a ballpoint pen.

2 pics below show the Gaming Models British A13 tanks I'm using as light tanks. I replaced their main gun with a portion of am EM4 Space Ranger heavy weapon.

Next 3 Pics below shows a repainted Matchbox Battle Kings APC.

Here's some shots of the Zuzzy Broken Blacktop Latex mat.

Here's a couple of 1/72 Bravo Team APCs. 1st is an M113 I repainted in urban camo. The 2nd is a Stryker which is unchaged from the box.

Well, that's it for now. I have several projects going at once. Some 28mm and 15mm Firefly-type minis, and some 15mm Sci-Fi buildings made from Hirst Arts Sci Fi bricks and also some 15mm Sci Fi buildings made from electrical boxes. As always, thanks for looking.

Some stuff for 15mm Combat Zone

Hi, everyone. I've been working on some 15mm scale minis and buildings for Combat Zone. I split my time between my home and an apartment. At home I game in 28mm and play Combat Zone primarily with the excellent EM4 minis. But my apartment is small so I play in 15mm there. Here's some of the 15mm Combat Zone stuff.

Pic below shows some Khurasan Minis Sepulvedan Resistance Fighters I'm using for Troopers

2 Pics below shows some Khurasan Minis Post-Apoc Road Outlaws I'm using for Gangers

Series of pics below show a couple of Old Crow Goannas to which I added extra weapons from an Old Crow missile turret and tank turret pack. The weapons are on magnet mounts so I can swap them out. The Goannas will be used for the Corporate Troops.

Pic above shows one of the 15mm Old Crow Goannas next to a converted 1/72 scale Bravo Team "Rhino". The Goanna has a 1/2 inch craft magnet glued to the top rear hull for a weapons mount.

Pic Above shows a Goanna with one of the tank turret guns mounted and one of the Sepulvedan Resistance fighter for scale. I think the Goanna works well for size with the Khurasan minis.
Pic below shows one of the Goannas with some of the left over missile mounts from the Old Crow missile turret. The cylindrical piece it is resting on is a rare earth magnet. It holds on well and can be rotated to aim in all directions. Pictured with another Sepulvedan Resistance Fighter.

The pic above shows a different Old Crow Tank Turret gun, this one is a multi-barreled mini-type gun.

Pic below shows a bunker made from Hirst Arts Sci Fi molds with the squad of Troopers. I've had that bunker built for a while but just got around to painting it.

Final pic is some Khurasan 15mm Garn. I may use them as Aliens in a Combat Zone scenario.

I really like these Khurasan minis. Beautiful detail, especially on the Road Outlaws. The Old Crow Goannas were very easy to paint and the Old Crow Turret packs I got, one tank and one missile turret, come with so many different weapons option pieces I have been able to equip 5 vehicles from just those two packs. Great value.

A couple of 28mm Sci Fi updates

A few little updates. Back in August I had one of those lucky finds shopping at Big Lots. I found a Secret Saturday Griffin Stealth jet for $5. I decided to see if I could convert to a dropship. Here's a link to the earlier post.
I finally painted it in the "night camo" pattern.

Pics above show the dropship with an AT43 container and some EM4 Troopers for scale.

Next is a quickie. A little while ago Vampifan had a nice review article on his blog featuring some Black Orc Games bikers and Black Scorpion Bikes and Bikers, here. I had some Hot Wheels Motorcycles I bought a while back for gaming, but I didn't have any riders. I was inspired to try out a Black Orc Games rider on the Hot Wheels Bikes. I had one Hot Wheels that is practically made to order for the Black Orc Games Rider. Here's some pics:
Pic below shows the Hot Wheels Bikes with a HeroClix mini. I used the bike in the center.

Pic below shows the HW bike with another HC mini for size.

A WIP shot of the assembled Black Orc Games Rider on the HW bike. All I had to do with the biker was spread his arms a little.

Below pic is the Rider after block painting and dipping. I still need to go back and retouch the rider, and maybe add a weapon on his back.

Overall, I think the Black Orc Games rider is a pretty good fit for the Hot Wheels bike. Thanks, Vampifan, for the tip about them.

Last item is another lucky find. This one from Hobby Lobby. In the clearance section I found a Battle Force Army playset for $2.39. It had 2 pretty nice Hummers and a Tank, plus some 54mm plastic soldiers. The Hummers are a hard plastic with black-tinted windows and pretty nice detail. Had a couple of goofy roof-mounted weapons which were easily removed. The tank required a little more work, mainly to the undercarriage, but still had pretty good detail. The 1st Hummer and Tank are now all done but painting, maybe will add some stowage. I taped the windows on the Hummer and took it apart and spray painted it with white primer, followed by a black spray.
Here's what it looked like initially, shown with a HC min for size.

More pics of the Hummers and the Tank to come next week. When these are done I'll use them for some Combat Zone games.

Thanks for looking, Luckyjoe.

15mm Sci Fi/Post-Apoc Fuel Tower

I just finished a little fuel tower for our 15mm gaming. I had a papier-mache cylinder sitting around for a while and mounted it onto a cd. Added some Hirst Arts Sci Fi bits, made a ladder from craft sticks and match sticks, and added railing from adhesive tile tape. Quick paint job with "Gunmetal" craft paint and a brown wash. Then a little sand, RR Ballast and flock for the base. Sealed with matte clear acrylic.

Better pics of the 28mm not Firefly Smuggler Crew

I wasn't satisified with the pics I recently posted of the new Sgt Maj Minis Smuggler Crew minis. They're really nice minis but my pics didn't even come close to doing them justice. I took some pics outside, and some in my light box and was able to get a few better pics. They're still not great pics, but they're better. In order they are Alan the Pilot (not-Wash), Gina the 1st Mate (not-Zoe), and Adam the Mercenary (not-Jayne)

Thanks for looking, Luckyjoe.

28mm Sci Fi Warehouse update

I did a few enhancements for our Combat Zone Warehouse, based on some input from fellow TMPers. I added a sign mounted on magnets, a billboard for the roof with the billboard sign also on magnets, and some drainpipes for a little extra detail. Here's the pics.

Pic above shows the new billboard and sign for the warehouse. They were made using the WorldWorks Games Streets of Mayhem set. There's one of the new Sgt Maj Minis Smuggler Crew minis standing on the billboard platform. Mounting the signs on magnets lets me swap out the signs for the building and the billboard.

Pic above shows one of the drainpipes. It was made from some round sprue from EM4 minis. There's one of the new Sgt Maj Minis Smuggler Crew minis for size.

Pic above shows another drainpipe. Another one of the new Sgt Maj Minis Smuggler Crew minis for size.

Pic above is the back of the warehouse with two drainpipes and another Sgt Maj Minis Smuggler Crew mini.

Pic above shows the WWG billboard. I built it with the print-outs mounted on basswood. With one of the new Sgt Maj Minis not-Firefly crew for size.

Pic above shows the Billboard with the sign removed, reversed and placed on the ground with the magnets exposed on the billboard and the back of the sign.

Back of the billboard.
