EM4 plastic Mechs

Hi, folks. I recently got a pack of EM4 plastic Mechs. I've been wanting these for quite some time and finally got around to getting some. I'm very glad I did. Besides my intended use of them in Combat Zone, their weapons also look like they'd be good for 15mm vehicle weapons. You get 5 in a pack for GBP 2.50. There are 2 smaller ones, two larger ones, and a larger one of a different type. Not painted yet, just assembled. Here's some pics for size comparison.
Below is one of the smaller Mechs between a HeroClix and a Space Marine.

Here they are painted up.

These were fun to paint. Black basecoat, Gunmetal, aluminum drybrush and a few details picked out in red. Thanks for looking.

Sgt. Major Minis Get Some! 28mm Sci Fi

About a week ago I saw a thread on TMP asking about 28mm minis to use to represent Firefly crew and Alliance troops. Andy from SMPress posted in that thread that they (Sgt. Major Minis) had their "Smuggler Crew" minis available and that they would soon have their "Space Cannibals" and "Allied Troops" ready as well. I had been waiting for word on the "Smuggler Crew" since seeing a post about them a while ago. Here's a link to the Sgt Maj Minis site. I immediately ordered them and got them really fast. Great service from Sgt Maj Minis, and great minis at an excellent price. As a matter of fact I did something I never do. I bought them sight unseen, and I'm glad I did. They're excellent minis. I'll be getting those "Space Cannibals" and "Allied Troops" as soon as they're available. So far all I've gotten done on them is to clean up a little flash and remove some mold lines and get them primed. Here's a couple of size comparison shots:

I chose the Adam figure for two reasons. One, he's my favorite, and two, he's the biggest of the crew. These minis size up pretty well with the other 28s I already own. I'm looking forward to getting these things painted. Thanks for looking.

How about Combat Zone in 15mm?

We've recently gotten into Combat Zone from EM4. I've been working on some 28mm Combat Zone stuff but decided it would also be nice to have some 15mm Combat Zone for when I'm in my apartment. (If you didn't know from previous posts I split my time between an apartment during the work week and home on weekends. I do 15mm stuff in the apartment because of size constraints.) Anyway, I already have some nice Rebel minis I can use and some 15mm scaled paper buildings and terrain, but where's the fun in that? Part of the fun in starting a new game is making new terrain and painting up new minis, right? So here's what I've got for 15mm Combat Zone. Some Khurasan minis Post Apoc Road Outlaws for gangers with some Khurasan Sepulvedan Resistance Fighters for Troopers, plus my Rebel minis Gangers, Earth Force Marines, Zombies, SWAT, and Cops. I also started some terrain, making some CD-based ruins using Hirst Arts small brick mold. I'm thinking I'll use one of the new Zuzzy Broken Blacktop mats when they're released.

Here's some WIP shots.

Trying some 28mm EM4 weapons as 15mm Vehicle Weapons

Hi, folks. I recently got some EM4 Mechs and Space Rangers and thought that some of the weapons could work well for vehicle mounted weapons in my ongoing 15K project.

Here's some pics:
Pic below shows the Space Ranger weapons with some 15mm Khurasan minis.

Pic below shows same minis with some of the weapons from a pack of EM4 Mechs.

I've got some Old Crow turrets coming. I'll see how those work out.

Some pics of the WIP Combat Zone Table

Here's a few pics of our Combat Zone table.
Pic below shows the board from the Ganger's side. The black fence in the foreground still needs to be painted. It's based on mdf and made from cereal card run through a crimper. The frame of the fence is basswood. The gate is hinged with some Dollhouse Butt Hinges. Across the table are the Troopers. The concrete barriers were cast in plaster from an ice tray from IKEA.

Pic below is a detail view of a small guard tower I made from the small Platformer set. I still need to base it.

28mm Terrain for Combat Zone

I was inspired a while back by Germy's Combat Zone Project posts on his site, here. If you haven't seen these, you should check them out. I also got back into visiting the Combat Zone Chronicles site. This is a great site with articles on terrain, minis & conversions, scenarios and many other useful features. Once again, if you haven't been there, you should check it out, here. I am really loving the EM4 plastic minis. They're very well made, with very good detail, easy to convert, and very reasonably priced. Here's the EM4 site.
Anyway, I've been working on making some terrain for Combat Zone and here's pics. The first group of pics below are of a mostly demolished ruin made mostly from the Hirst Arts Small Brick mold, and based on a 6" round piece of craft wood. I chose the small brick mold because I think it resembles cinder block. Most of the rubble on the piece was made from putting miscast Hirst Arts bricks from various molds in a plastic bag and whacking it with a hammer. I then glued that debris on to the base. Tried something new with painting these pieces. I filled a spray bottle with magic wash and tinted it black with some craft paint, and used that to spray the ruins, instead of priming and then painting. I was hoping the magic wash would not only paint the ruins and rubble, but also seal it and help hold the rubble onto the base. I think it came out pretty good, and the rubble is holding on to the base pretty well.

The next group of pics is of another ruin. Same construction and painting method. For this one I made a partially destroyed corrugated iron roof. The roof has a frame made from matchsticks. Onto that frame I laid sections of corrugated iron made from cereal card which I ran through a crimping tool. One of the reasons I wanted a roof on this piece was to provide a platform for extra elevation for snipers.

The two pics above show a mattress made from Sculpie polymer clay. I got the idea from an article on the Combat Zone Chronicles called "Putty Rubbish". I made a mattress, a chair and some trash bags a while back. This is the first time they'll see use.
The next group of pics below is of another ruin, this one with a stairway and a little bit of the second floor left.

The pic below shows the sculpie chair I made a while back.

This was a fun little series of builds. I'm really pleased with the way the "black magic wash" worked. It brought out the detail of the unpainted bricks very nicely and helped seal the rubble to the bases. I'll probably continue to use it for the rest of the ruins, though I may make it darker. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Dipped Some EM4 Plastic Troopers

I dipped some EM4 Plastic Troopers in Minwax "Red Oak". When dry they were sprayed with a matte acrylic sealer. Here's some pics:
Pic below shows them pre-dip.

All of the below pics are after dipping.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. I think the dip was an improvement. This should save me some time as I ramp up getting ready for our first Combat Zone game. Thanks for looking.
